SIUC Google Apps Information
Getting an SIUC Google Apps Account
Your Google Apps account is your "@siu.edu" email address. All SIUC employees and enrolled students are email eligible. To create your email address, you can login to:
https://netid.siu.edu
and select the "Manage Email" link.
This same Manage Email page will, for your convenience, allow you to change your email address one time according to University policy. This option would typically be used to select a new email address due to name change. You will be allowed to keep the old address for a period of time so that you can set up mail forwarding and notify senders of the new address.

Resetting a Forgotten Google Password
At the time your Google Apps account was created, it was assigned a temporary initial password of the form "mmddxxxx" where "mmdd" is the month and day of your birth (e.g., June 14 would be "0614") and "xxxx" is the last four digits of your DawgTag. You will be prompted to change this password the first time you login to any SIUC Google Apps application (such as webmail).
To reset a forgotten google password, go to
https://netid.siu.edu
and select the "Manage Email" link. The password that you set here will be temporary and you will be prompted to set a new password when you next login. If you already know your Google password and want to change it, you should do so by selecting "Account Settings" while logged in to any SIUC Google Apps application (and not through the link above). |
Unlocking a Google Password
Occasionally a Google password will become "locked" due to repeated bad password attempts. If your are unable to access your email and you believe you are using the correct password, you can unlock your Google password by going to the Google UnlockCaptcha page at
https://www.google.com/accounts/UnlockCaptcha
This will present you with the standard google login screen. You should enter your email address with the '@siu.edu' appended, and your Google password. If you enter the password correctly, you should then see a 'Next step' message directing you to then go ahead and sign into your account as normal. |
